  • “ I launched Mera Joota Hai Japani with Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff in the lead. It was to be produced by Sudhakar Bokadia, but the producer ran into some kind of financial crisis and the project was shelved, so my bad luck continued. - Unknown

  • “I was the first star from here (Bollywood) to receive an offer from Hollywood. Today our stars talk of “going Hollywood,” but I started the trend, way back in ’91. I was the first big Bollywood star to receive an offer to work with a top Hollywood banner. They were planning a film called Buddha, but again, my luck ran out, as the project didn’t take off.” - Unknown

  • “Though at times my mentor Mahesh Bhatt, who’s like a father figure to me, tried to advise me, but by then it was already late and my films started bombing one after another. I saw my stardom gradually slip away from my hands and I couldn’t do anything about it. The damage was already done.” - Unknown

  • “ I realise now that I messed up my own career. I was flooded with offers soon after Aashiqui’s roaring success. There were some 63 films offers that I received then. Most of them were from leading banners, and that’s why I couldn’t refuse them. I ended up signing about 47 of those films (randomly) without even reading the script. It was not humanly possible for me to personally analysis and listen to all the scripts. You might also call it my insecurity, which I’m sure every actor goes through - Unknown

Biography

Rahul Roy
Last Updated: Thursday, November 12, 2009

Rahul RoyRahul Roy had arrived. This dream hero of 'Aashiqui' shot to fame approximately a decade back because of his 'chocolate' looks and the ability to sway the female of the species. What was considered as to be a big break for him soon started vanishing and people saw the less and less of Rahul Roy on screen. The thin veil of 'Aashiqui' was soon disappearing. Many had considered this model-turned-actor to take the screen by storm because of his immensely successful debut movie opposite another newcomer and model Anu Agarwal. But some wrong career moves on his part and started the downfall of Rahul Roy.

But in the times of crisis, it seemed only mentor Mahesh Bhatt had tremendous faith on him and gave him some swell roles like 'Junoon' where one had a lot of talent to show. But despite some good projects, Rahul Roy's career could not take the right kind of swing. He had to content himself with some B-grade films. There were talks of his trying his luck in Hollywood but again this idea did not seem to take off. There are not many films where Rahul can be seen nowadays. There are movies like 'Sapne Saajan Ke' opposite Jackie Shroff and Karisma Kapoor, 'Megha' again with Karisma Kapoor and one movie where Rahul can be seen is Kirti Kumar's 'Naseeb' with Govinda and Mamta Kulkarni.

One can again see lover boy Rahul Roy into the thick of things by his godfather Sudhakar Bokade turning director. In his directorial debut film, 'Mera Joota Hain Japani', Rahul can be seen with stars like Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Sushmita Sen. Lets hope this turns out to be the film Rahul Roy.
