• Tang was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award for her role in Lust, Caution in 2008.
• In 2008 Wei alone was blacklisted by the Chinese government for her participation in the controversial Se, jie (2007)(Lust, Caution). This included the pulling of her endorsement ads for Ponds skincare products in China, a deal reported to be worth nearly a million dollars (US). Members of the China's State Administration of Radio, Film & TV (SARFT) were reportedly censured for allowing the film's release.
• Was chosen by Variety as one of the Top 10 Actors to Watch (October 2007).
• Was honored as Asian Female Star of the Year by CineAsia 2007 (December 2007).
• Was selected from more than 10,000 actresses to star as Wang Jiazhi in Se, jie (2007), directed by Ang Lee.
• Tang Wei is an aspiring writer and director in addition to being an actress.
