- Died in Hyderabad at Basheerbagh Palace in 1968, after a prolonged illness which left him partially paralysed in his last years; he continued to sing and perform in public with support from his son Munawar Ali Khan until his death.
- His grandson Ustad Raza Ali Khan is also a Hindustani classical vocalist.
- His son, Ustad Munawar Ali Khan (1930-1989), a classical singer.
- Was married to Ali Jiwai, who died in 1932, which made his grief pour into his music.
