  • She won the 2009 election to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Vidisha constituency in Madhya Pradesh, on a BJP candidacy, by a record margin of 3.89 lakh votes. This is her 10th election. She is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha, and is expected to become Leader of the Opposition in the house when L.K. Advani steps down from the post, per his wishes.
  • She was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2006 from Madhya Pradesh. She served as the deputy leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha.
  • She was re-inducted into the cabinet as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, which she held from September 2000 until January 2003.
  • She returned to Parliament in April 2000 as a Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand.

College, Ambala Cantt and from Punjab University, Chandigarh. Following her splendid academic career, she began her political life on a very happy note. She was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Haryana and rendered her services to various portfolios including Labour, Employment and Social Welfare. In 1990, she was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

In 1996, she was elected as an M.P. in the 11th Lok Sabha and became the Information and Broadcasting Minister. She held this post till 2003 intermittently. She has a keen interest in poetry, classical music, drama and fine arts. She was the President of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Haryana for many years. Sushma Swaraj is one of the leading B.J.P. speakers in Parliament. A dedicated political leader, Swaraj is, presently India’s Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
