Shahana Goswami was born in Delhi. She started acting during her college days.Shahana had her early education at the Sardar Patel Vidyalya, Delhi and later she studied at the Sophia College in Mumbai. Her father Omkar Goswami is an economist. Shahana spent two years in America when he was a faculty member at Rutgers university. Her brother Srijit Goswami is doing his doctorate in Physics at Cambridge, UK.

Her first film was ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya hota’, first directorial venture by Naseeruddin Shah. Her next movie was Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ She won acclaim and recognition for her portrayal of the character of ‘Debbie’, Arjun Rampal’s girl friend who eventually becomes his bickering wife in the movie ‘Rock On’. Shahana has done variety of films and feels lucky to be associated with the movies like ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’ with Sudhir Mishra and ‘Firaaq’ with Nandita Das. Shahana likes watching films. She says the influence of cinema made her take acting as her career.
