  • In 1979, he performed at the ITC Sangeet Sammmelan at New Delhi.
  • Rashid gave his first performance at the age of eleven, in 1977.
  • It was Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan who nurtured the latent potential of Rashid through his training in the traditional one-to-one manner, first at his own residence at Badaun (Uttar Pradesh) and subsequently at The Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta.
  • Rashid had little or no interest in music initially. His talents were first noticed by his uncle Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan another great exponent of Hindusthani Classical music on hearing his ocassional hummings.

rashid khanUstad Rashid Khan is an Indian classical musician in the North Indian Hindustani music tradition. He belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, and is the great grandson of Gharana founder Ustad Inayat Hussain. Rashid Khan who gave his first concert at age eleven, received his early musical guidance from his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. An expert in the use of sargams and sargam taankari, he is also a master of the tarana. His mastery of all aspects tonal variations, dynamics and timbre adjustment is the ultimate in the realm of voice culture. Rashid Khan has also experimented with fblending pure Hindustani music with lighter musical genres. He also performs jugalbandis, along with sitarist Shahid Parvez and others. Rashid Khan has been crowned the great successor of the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan - Amir Khan generation.
