    • In March 2009, there were news reports about Poonam Yadav's attempt to commit suicide, allegedly due to her fallout with Ismail Darbar. However, her family members stated that she fell ill after unknowingly consuming tablets for blood pressure. According to some news reports, Poonam's mother rushed her to a Government hospital in Lucknow; later, she was shifted to another hospital with better facilities as her condition was critical. By March 24, she was out of danger, but hadn't given her state
    • Also the Minister of Railways, Laloo Prasad Yadav, had praised Poonam's dedication and noted her mother's contribution to Poonam's upbringing and humble style of singing. Yadav also promised her that if she is unable to succeed in the singing arena, he would get her a job at the Indian Railways.
    • During the show, it was noticed that Smriti Zubin Irani, one of the most famous television actors was her big fan and prodded her supporters to vote for Poonam, as her life story was an inspiration for millions of underprivileged girls across the nation.
    • It was recently discovered that she also has an adopted daughter, who was abandoned by her biological mother. She adopted her at the age of 2, when Poonam was only 22 and the girl is now 7 years old now (Dec 2008).

    Poonam YadavPoonam Yadav was born in 1981 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She lost her father even before she was born and her mother used to work as a paid domestic help. She attended Sanskrit Pathshala Kanya Inter College in Lucknow. She used to work at a PCO in Lucknow at a meager salary of Rs. 600 per month. She is a true fan of Asha Bhonsle and also admires Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. During her free time she listens to music. She came to mumbai to participate in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007.

    She was chosen to be in Ismail Darbar’s Yalgaar Gharana. She was among the 10 finalists on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 and attained 4th place in the competition with public votes. She was eliminated on September 28, 2007. During Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007, she was nick named ‘Pocket Sized Powerhouse’ by the contest Gurus and the Host. At the Grand Finale of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 she sang “Hungama Hogaya” and was awarded with a Chevrolet Spark and a trophy.
