    Madhur Bhandarkar used to run a VHS library at Khar Mumbai. As a result he became a student of cinema. He began his career in Bollywood as an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma. In 1999 he made his directorial debut with Trishakti but the film flopped at the box-office. It was with his film Chandni Bar which had Tabu in the main lead that Bhandarkar made it to the top league of Bollywood. Madhur got his first national award for this film.
