Quotes

Imran Khan
  • “I would love to work with Imran, he was fantastic in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, but the fact remains that I haven’t signed him for any of my projects,” Karan Johar tells me, “There’s no denying that Imran has great potential. He’s sensational and looks so fresh. But the news is untrue.”
  • "Please, don't look at it as my launch vehicle... Abbas (Tyrewala) didn't want to make a hero-heroine-oriented film. He took a lot of care to ensure that my co-stars are not relegated to side roles, you know."
  • "I never thought of becoming an actor. I had gone to New York Film Academy in Los Angeles and trained as a director. I had always wanted to become a director. Only because Abbas wanted me to act in the film that I decided to act."

Biography

Imran Khan
Last Updated: Thursday, August 20, 2009

Imran KhanKhan is the son of Anil Pal, a Bengali-American and Nuzhat Khan. Anil, who works as a Director of Operations Engineering at Netflix in Silicon Valley, was a classmate of director Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat's brother, at IIT Bombay. Anil and Nuzhat married but divorced when Imran was one and a half years old.

He grew up with the surname Khan as his mother brought him up in India. However, he moved to live with his father in California, to finish high school. He then trained in film making in Los Angeles. He is also the nephew of actor Aamir Khan, director Mansoor Khan and the grandson of Nasir Hussain who was a noted director and producer. While living in India, he studied at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim in Mumbai, and for a brief period in Bangalore.

Super hit success of ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,’ and the not so successful ‘Kidnap,’ one wonders what has happened to Aamir Khan’s nephew and protege, Imran Khan. While he became a household name, like his uncle he is also very picky when it comes to choosing scripts and new movie roles.

Well while he may not have any more films coming out this year, indeed the junior Khan has two new films lined up for 2009, one of which includes his uncles home production, ‘Delhi Belly.’ The film is a touted to be a comedy that will be internationally appealing. Besides this, he also has an action thriller lined up with Sanjay Dutt, his kidnap costar, as well as Shruti Hassan, daughter of Kamal Hassan. The title of the film is ‘Luck.’

Both films will see, Khan in different avatars. While in ‘Delhi Belly’ he will be seen as the scrawny and lean kid next door, ‘Luck’ will feature him buffed up in a new muscular avatar. These films will be released in 2009.
