Hans Raj Hans is an accomplished Punjabi Folk and Sufi music singer. His grand and seamless voice has all the attributes that reflect the folk based singing style of Punjab. Today Hans Raj Hans has been accounted as a Legend. Hans Raj Hans was born at Shafipur, a small village near Jalandhar (Punjab) to a humble Sikh farm worker family. His introduction to the genre of music took place as he drew inspiration from street musicians and from the holy shrines, which had a spiritual legacy. Hans Raj Hans got his real influence when Ustad Puran Shah Koti saw the talent of this young boy. He was then singing in his native village.
Later on Ustad Puran Shah Koti took him under his strict supervision. Hans explicated into a skilled singer who has a great diversity under the expert tutelage of Ustad Puran. As time goes on this talented pupil of the traditional Punjabi Sufiana music Hans Raj Hans exhibited his excellence in folk based Bhangra melodies. Hans joined D.A.V. College in Jalandhar, Punjab after passing high school. Apart from singing, Hans has also featured as a protagonist in a Punjabi feature film Mehandi Shagna Di and also made a guest appearance in the film Baisakhi.
The legendary Pakistani sufi singer Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was also impressed by his vocal range. Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has also invited Hans Raj Hans to sing a song on original composition of his for the movie Kacche Dhage. The duet song "Ishke Dee Gali Vichon Koi Koi Langhda" gained huge popularity on the Bollywood and Indi pop scene. In the year 1997, Hans Raj Hans bagged the honor of being the first Punjabi singer, who was formally invited to perform in Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. Hans is always attempted to preserve the quality of music apart from performing. He is constructing a studio-cum-archive for the music of Punjab on his farmland.
