    • In the 1950s and 1960s he acted in movies as well as singing.
    • He did movies with Teresa Brewer, Pat Crowley, and Rosemary Clooney.
    • In 1957 he had his own television show.
    • He also sang in the Braemor Rooms, Churchtown, Dublin, Ireland.
    • Mitch Miller, who was in charge of talent at Columbia Records, noted Cernik in 1950, and he joined Columbia and got his new stage name at Miller's urging: Miller is supposed to have said, "my name is 'Mitchell' and you seem a nice 'guy', so we'll call you Guy Mitchell.
    • Mitchell also appeared as George Romack on the 1961 NBC western detective series Whispering Smith, with World War II hero Audie Murphy in the leading role.

    He was signed by Warner Brothers as a child for his possible future potential but became known as a singer in the San Francisco radio. After us navy service he sang with Carmen Cavallero's band from 1946-1947. In 1950 he joined Columbia records and accompanied by Mitch Miller and his orchestra had some great hits that included gold records for "My Heart Cries for You" in 1950, "My Truly Truly Fair" in 1951, "The Roving Kind" in 1951, "Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania" in 1952 and "Singing the Blues" in 1957. Mitchell appeared in films those redheads from Seattle in 1953 and Red Garters in 1954.
