farida khanumFarida Khanum is a renowned Pakistani Ghazal singer from Punjab. Farida Khanum has been given the title "Malika-e-Ghazal" (Queen of Ghazal) in tribute to her singing talents. The ghazal she is most famously associated with is "Aaj Jaane Ki Zidd Naa Karo". Being trained by her sister Mukhtar Begum and the renowned maestro of Patiala Gharana, Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan in her initial years, Farida Khanum did suffer a set back in her career after her marriage because of rigid stance of an unappreciative husband and rigid Islamic norms practiced in Lahore society at the time.

She did set a break only in 1964 whereby her husband allowed her to sing in public again. Farida Khanum has imparted to the ghazal her own genius though she was hooked up to the Begum Akhtar style. Her special features includes her way of sticking to classical Raagas and minimalist accompaniment. Rightly considered as the queen of Ghazals in Pakistan, she continues to record in Pakistan and is equally well known for her concerts.
