May 5, 1989 is certainly an important day for Chris Brown lovers as that was the date he was born. Christopher Maurice Brown, “Chris Brown,” as known to his fans, has tried a lot of things---from singing, to dancing, and even occasional acting. He is one of the best R & B singers in the United States, boasting a nomination in the Grammy Award, to be specific, under the category of: “Best Contemporary R & B Album, the title of Artist of the Year in 2006, and three Billboard awards for his single entitled “Poppin.”
Chris Brown grew up in Virginia, and was the son of Clinton Brown and Joyce Hawkins. His musical talent became more evident under the care of his Aunt. Together with his cousins in Arkansas, Chris usually performed in various talent shows in the city. Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Michael Jackson, etc. are singers whom he considers as his musical influences. Chris’ first dream was to become a rapper. It was during his teenage years, however, when he was discovered in their family’s gas station by a production team based locally, transformed into a vocalist, and sent to New York to start recording.
“Run It!” was his debut single which was produced by Scott Storch. “Run It!” also had Chris work with famous artists such as Bow Wow, The Underdogs, and many more. Just the first week when his album was introduced, more than 150,000 copies were purchased by his supporters. It became so successful that it sold millions of copies not only in the United States, but all over the world. The success of his career in singing also opened doors for Chris Brown into the world of acting.
He has, in fact, appeared on various television shows such as “The O.C.” during its fourth season, in a total of three episodes, and The Brandon T. Jackson Show during its pilot episode. Chris also had his movie debut in “Stomp the Yard,” featuring other artists like Ne-Yo, Columbus Short, etc. He was also given the lead in the film entitled: “This Christmas,” which is a combination of the drama and comedy movie genre.
Chris Brown’s fame, however, was tainted by controversies pertaining to his relationship with his singer-girlfriend Rihanna. He has been taken into custody for felony battery and is still facing charges for making criminal threats and assault after a violent dispute with Rihanna. At present, Chris Brown also had his name taken off the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards’ list of nominees because of the ongoing sea of issues he is facing.
