Aftab Shivdasani was born to a Parsi mother and a Sindhi father on June 25th, 1978. He has an older sister named Afsana Shivdasani. Aftab Shivdasani studied at St. Xavier's High School, Mumbai. He then graduated from H. R. College of Commerce in Mumbai.He was chosen as a baby of 14 months for a television commercial for a leading brand of baby food, Farex. Thereafter, he went on to act in many other television ads. Aftab Shivdasani then graduated to films as a child artiste. He first made his Bollywood debut as a kid in Mr India, then appeared in films such as Shahenshah, Chaalbaaz and Insaniyat.
Aftab Shivdasani continued modelling in commercials till the age of 19 until he finally got a break to play the lead role in a film. He got his first leading role in Bollywood in director Ram Gopal Varma's Mast opposite the then popular Urmila Matondkar. The movie was unfortunately, a flop. However, Aftab Shivdasani won the 2000 Filmfare awards's Best Debut, and also the Best Newcomer Award for his debut performance.
After a gap of almost two years, Aftab Shivdasani came back with Vikram Bhatt’s Kasoor (2001) and Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001). These were successful and helped him to make a comeback. These were followed by many films, a few noteworthy being Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Darna Mana Hai (2003), Hungama (2003), Masti (2004), Koi Aap Sa (2005), Dus Kahaniyan (2007), Money Hai To Honey Hai (2008) and De Taali (2008).
